Dr. Gabriel Târziu


Dr. Gabriel Târziu is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, LMU, working on a project on the epistemological particularities of understanding in climate science. His main aim in this project is to develop an account of climate scientific understanding that takes climate model hierarchies as central for achieving understanding in climate science. Dr. Târziu is a philosopher specialized in epistemology, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of mathematics. He has a wide interest in topics related to (scientific) understanding and explanation, the problem of the applicability of mathematics to the physical world, and the ontological debate in the philosophy of mathematics. Before joining the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy in November 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the Romanian Academy and he spent time in Munich, Brussels, Essen and Ghent as a research fellow.
