Impressions of past Munich Climate Schools
-

Hybrid event mode
The implementation of the Munich Climate School is a technical high performance. Students can participate in the lectures both on site and online. The lecturers mainly teach on site, but some international professors are also connected from all over the world.
-

Lectures by LMU experts
Participants gain insights into climate topics through lectures by LMU experts from a wide range of disciplines. These sessions bring together different perspectives, introduce current research, and are always followed by dedicated time for discussion and exchange.
-

Climate science connects
The students who participate on site in Munich get to know each other intensively for a week. This creates a real team spirit, supported by the common will to explore climate change in an interdisciplinary way.
-

Practical Modules
Workshops and practical modules give on-site participants a hands-on way to explore climate topics. They build new skills, gain insights into sustainability, and exchange ideas with experts and other participants.
-

Excursions
Participants explore climate topics beyond the classroom through activities across the city. Transdisciplinary collaborations, for example with the Residenztheater, and visits to places like the climate change garden or the English Garden offer new perspectives and real-world insights into climate change.
Voices on the Munich Climate School
"With an exciting, wide-ranging programme of lectures, the first Munich Climate School enabled more than 80 students and lecturers from different disciplines to gain an understanding of the scientific basis of climate change. At the same time, it provided a fantastic forum to engage in dialogue across disciplines. The large number of questions and lively discussions, which regularly led to breaks being shortened or cancelled, speak for the great success of the Summer School."
— Participant Lena Köhn, Doctoral student at the chair of Professor Dr. Jens Kersten, LMU Munich (Chair of Public Law and Administrative Sciences)
"The Munich Climate School has answered an incredible number of my questions regarding climate protection, which cannot be answered within my own discipline. Participation is a unique opportunity to learn about the state of the art in many relevant areas of climate protection, to gain an understanding of the methods and principles of other disciplines, and to find points of connection to my own. Never before have I seen professors and students from diverse disciplines think and discuss with each other in such an interdisciplinary way. Participating in the Munich Climate School is a great and incredibly exciting opportunity for all students!"
— Participant David Kaiser, Student of Environmental Systems and Sustainability- Monitoring, Modeling and Management (Department of Geography)
"The Munich Climate School showed me how inter- and intradisciplinary science can be lived with enthusiasm. After a warm introduction by Prof. Satzger, Prof. Biagini and Mr. v. Maltitz, we were allowed to build on the basics of climate change, step by step to expand our understanding of the greatest challenge of our time. Both we students and the lecturers followed and questioned each other's research questions and results with excitement during all lectures from our own or other disciplines. In the fields of geography, law, political science, economics, sociology, and many more, we were able to repeatedly take a different perspective on climate change and its impacts. This enabled us to understand climate change not only as a problem, but also as a transformation opportunity that must be used together. Many a question and one or two contacts will accompany me in my everyday life at university. A great event all around! I'm looking forward to next time!"
— Participant Malena Anthofer, Law Student
