Dr. Cecilia Scorza-Lesch


Cecilia Scorza-Lesch holds a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Heidelberg. Since 2017, she coordinates the public outreach and educational programmes of the Faculty of Physics at LMU. Scorza initiated the Universe Awareness Programme (UNAWE), for which she developed "The Universe in the Box", currently used in schools in more than 60 countries. She worked at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy on the planning of the House of Astronomy and the ESO-Supernova. Scorza is the author of several popular books. She received the Neumann Prize for Didactics from the German Astronomical Society (AG), was honoured with the EU Scientix Prize for the "Universe in a Box" and received the Kepler Prize for Physics Education from the German Teachers' Association MINT. In 2021, she was awarded the Education Prize of the Association of German Foundations for the LMU programme "Climate Change: Understanding and Acting".
