Prof. Dr. Karen Pittel


Karen Pittel heads the Center for Energy, Climate and Resources at the ifo Institute and is Professor of Economics at LMU Munich. She studied Economics at the University of Göttingen and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, received her PhD from the Technical University Chemnitz and her Venia Legendi from ETH Zurich. She has been teaching classes and seminars on Climate, Resource and Energy Economics since many years. Karen’s research interests lie in die fields of Energy and Climate Economics with a focus on the energy transition and the design of efficient and effective climate and energy policies. She has been appointed to a number of policy and scientific advisory bodies. She is, for example,  Co-Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), Vice-Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the German Science Platform Climate Protection and member of the Bavarian Climate Council.
