Tobias Nützel

Tobias Nützel is a research fellow and PhD student at the research and teaching unit “Physical Geography and Earth System Interactions” (Prof. Dr. Julia Pongratz) in the Faculty of Geosciences at LMU Munich. In his PhD he focuses on terrestrial carbon dioxide removal methods (re-/afforestation, second generation bioenergy plants (e.g. Miscanthus) with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and harvested wood products) and potential trade-offs and synergies of these methods with climate-effective ecosystem services. His research is part of the „Carbon Dioxide Removal“-funding line of the BMBF (STEPSEC and CDRSynTra) and uses various modelling approaches (terrestrial biosphere models, earth system models, semi-empirical bookkeeping models). Previously, he studied Geography and Physical Geography at LMU Munich.
